2020 Kindergarten Enrolments
I will be conducting our 2020 Kindergarten Interviews, with our new students and their parents, from 16 - 20 September. This process helps us ensure that we cater for each of our incoming student's individual needs.
If you are intending on enrolling your child at St Mary's, but have not yet done so, could you please complete this process as soon as possible.
Enrolments can now be placed online. Go to https://enrolments.stmarysc.nsw.edu.au/enrol/ or collect an enrolment form from Belinda in the Office.
For assistance with the application process please contact Belinda.
The Message Box
We have placed a letterbox near the whiteboard in the Sails Area to aid student communication. Students can write me a letter about anything at all- this could include concerns, worries, joys, to share their learning or anything at all. I love getting mail!
In collaboration with our senior students and our Child Safe Advocacy Officer, Mrs. Sally Croker, we decided it would be good to give students a mechanism for reporting. Sometimes things can occur that we are unaware of and that students do not wish to tell a teacher about. This message box gives students a voice whilst respecting their privacy.
Religious Education with Mrs Skelly
Respect for Creation
We are continuing to reflect on our school value of RESPECT, and especially in these last couple of weeks – respect for creation. At our school assembly on Monday, our Year 3 children shared their ideas about how to show respect for God’s wonderful gifts of creation.
- Say thank you to God
- Enjoy nature – have a picnic, go for a walk or bike ride
- Smell the flowers
- Do some gardening
- Try to recycle
- Use less plastic
- Care for nature – help an injured animal
Dear God,
We rejoice and give thanks for Spring,
For new life in creation all around us
And for each new day with new opportunities and new blessings
For a school term full of life, love and learning;
we give thanks.
Amen!

What a fantastic day Years 3-6 had at the Woolworths Cricket Blast on Tuesday.
Our students were highly engaged, taking part in skills sessions, modified games and the very popular ‘Class Catch’ competition.
I am sure that many of our students came away from the day having learnt new skills and enjoyed taking part in a team sport.
Many thanks to our Years 3-6 teachers and support staff for your assistance with this event.

Cricket Trial
Last week Jake Cosgrove travelled to Wagga Wagga for the MacKillop cricket trials. Following is Jake's report:
"On Thursday morning I left for Wagga because we had a training session that afternoon. In our session there were 66 boys from Sydney, Wagga, Canberra and Yass. We each batted on the pitch for two overs and then we bowled for two overs.
The next day we had to be at the oval at 8am because there was a chance of showers. We basically followed the same format as at training the day before.
They chose possible and probables of 12 in each team. They chose MacKillop and Invitational members. I wasn't selected but will definitely go again in 2020!"
NSW CPS - MacKillop Athletics Trials

Helpers Needed For Our Intervention Programs
If you would like to assist with any of our intervention programs at school, please complete the volunteer form link below or contact Belinda, Sarah or myself. Parents/grandparents/community members are welcome to help. They need to have a Working with Children Check and we can help them with this application process. We will train the volunteers in what to do. You may like to come and simply listen to some children read. We currently offer intervention programs in Spelling, Reading and Numeracy.

Today is "R U Ok?" Day.
Got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about it isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it.
By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.
Peer Support- Moving Forward
Week 5 of Program
We introduce a 3 step model this week to encourage resilient responses; "Pause, Plan, Proceed".
The children take part in an activity to identify their feelings and the immediate effects on their bodies i.e. butterflies in their stomachs. The normalcy of feelings is acknowledged and the importance of being proactive is stressed. The children learn that pausing when they are emotional is helpful. They can do this by being still, taking a deep breath or counting to ten. Pausing gives children space to see a situation more accurately before planning a response.
Ask your child to describe the 3 steps of the model and what is involved in each one.
