Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to apologise for my recent string of absences from school. I have had a run of work and personal matters that have pulled me away from St Mary's, and these, unfortunately, will continue into next week. From Week Six, I will be more available. Thank you for your patience during this busy time.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, Friday, 3 November, to share our Grandparents and Special Friends Day. The day will commence with Mass at 9.30am. Following Mass, our visitors will move to the MP Hall for morning tea. After morning tea, our students will perform on stage. Given it is 120 years since the roots of St Mary's Primary School were planted, our theme is 'Celebrating Our History'. After assembly, visitors may have a look around our fantastic school facilities and visit classrooms.
St Mary's is renowned for its incredible morning tea spreads; let us not disappoint this year. We ask families to donate a plate of food to share on this special day. Our Year 4 families, coordinated by Allison, Claire and Elise, are asked to support with the setting up and serving of morning tea.
Staffing Matters
Melbourne Cup Day - Tuesday, 7 November
In the spirit of fun, students may bring a different hat, other than the school hat, to school next Tuesday.
The School Explorers Program
Next week, our School Explorers - School Transition Program, re-commences. We look forward to welcoming our pre-school friends back to St Mary's from 9.30 am-11.00 am for a fun 'Make-It!' art, craft and construction session with Year Five.
School Fees
Term Four School Fee statements were sent out last week. These can also be viewed on the Compass Parent Portal. Please notify the School Office if you did not receive this. We appreciate your prompt payment of the fees. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require assistance. Fee remission paperwork is available upon request and always treated confidentially.
Teacher Accreditation
Teacher Accreditation at Proficient Teacher level is a mandatory process that supports quality teaching, recognises the invaluable role that teachers play in the community, helps develop teachers and contributes to improved student learning. When teachers enter the profession provisionally or conditionally accredited, they continue to develop their teaching practice as they work towards achieving the mandatory accreditation level of Proficient Teacher.
Proficient Teacher accreditation is a process that supports teachers to develop their practice aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. It is a structured school-based process where teachers are supported by their colleagues, schools, and the profession. Provisionally and conditionally accredited teachers develop their practice throughout their daily work in a school by participating in a range of professional activities.
Teachers engage in professional activities across the 3 domains of teaching:Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice, Professional Engagement. All teachers must meet the conditions of accreditation set out in the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual to become and remain accredited in NSW.
This Term Miss Annie Croker has achieved her proficiency accreditation. We congratulate Miss Croker on this commendable achievement.

Catholic Mission
The Lord has told us what is good.
What he requires of us is this:
to do what is just, to show mercy,
and to live humbly with our God. (Micah 6:8)
“Never think that you have nothing to offer, or that nobody needs you. Many people need you. Think about it! Each of you, think in your heart: many people need me.” (Pope Francis)
PRAYER –Join us in praying for the poor and marginalised.
DONATIONS – Please help us to raise money for those who are much less fortunate than ourselves.
WHITE ELEPHANT/LUCKY DIP–unwanted items (but in reasonable condition). Eg: toys, games, books, kitchenware, clothes/shoes, drawing/sketching materials, jewellery, purses/bags/wallets etc.)
“In truth I tell you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”
NOVEMBER is the MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS
In the tradition of the Catholic Church, the month of November is set aside for the remembrance of All Souls. We pray for our loved ones who have preceded us in life that they may be at peace in heaven with God. During November we will continue to pray for our loved ones who have passed away. If there are people you would like us to pray for please write their names on a piece of paper or card and we will place them in the prayer space in our classrooms.
Tomorrow is Grandparents Day – our chance to celebrate and give thanks for these special and valuable people.
Grandparents see the inner beauty of the grandchild
And make the world a little softer, a little kinder, and a little warmer.
A Blessing for Grandparents
Dear God, Please bless our grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave our parents
and for the life they give to us.
For the ways they help us and make us strong, we give thanks.
For the ways they love us no matter what, we rejoice.
For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here, we are grateful.
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.
Let them find peace and rest from their work.
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes
the glory of your Son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren.
Bless them always until they come to rest in you. Amen.

Premmie Marathon Challenge- Running for Premature Babies
Good luck to one of our parents, Stuart McWilliam, who on 4-5 November 2023, between midday and midday, will run for 24 hours on a Peloton treadmill in Westfield Bondi Junction while fundraising for Running for Premature Babies as part of the Premmie Marathon Challenge.
Stu and Amber's second son Nix was born 9 weeks early, and lifesaving equipment donated by Running for Premature Babies saved his life.
