Term Two Thank You!
As we end Term 2, I am pleased to write to you all to celebrate our students' incredible efforts and achievements during Semester One. It has been wonderful to witness many accomplishments, and I am very proud of each and every one of our students.
First and foremost, I want to extend my congratulations to our students for their outstanding dedication, hard work, and determination. Your commitment to academic excellence and personal development has been inspiring. You have demonstrated your passion and drive by excelling in the classroom, participating in extracurricular activities, or showcasing your talents in various events. Your achievements are a testament to your resilience, enthusiasm, and unwavering support from your families and our dedicated staff.
Speaking of families, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the parents and guardians. Your continued support, guidance, and involvement in your child's education has played a pivotal role in their success. Your commitment to their growth and learning is commendable, and I am grateful for the partnership we share in shaping their future. Your dedication to their well-being and education is invaluable.
A special thank you goes out to our Parent and Friends Association, whose tireless efforts have enriched the school community. Your support in organising events, fundraisers, and providing resources has greatly enhanced the overall experience for our students. Your countless hours of volunteering and dedication to fostering a strong sense of community are deeply appreciated.
I would also like to thank our School Board for their guidance and support. Your wise decision-making has been instrumental in creating an environment that nurtures excellence in education.
Lastly, but certainly not least, a big round of applause to our dedicated staff. Your hard work, expertise, and dedication have been instrumental in creating an enriching and supportive learning environment for our students. Your commitment to their growth- academically, socially, and emotionally- is truly remarkable. Your passion for teaching and the countless hours spent planning, mentoring, and inspiring our students have not gone unnoticed.
The Catholic Education Office sent their Senior Officer and Lead of Teaching and Learning this term. Patrick Ellis, and a professional videographer, spent time at school to capture the great learning that is taking place at St Mary's. You can view this video here. https://catalyst.cg.catholic.edu.au/news/the-catalyst-journey-for-st-marys-crookwell/
As we conclude Semester One and head into the much-deserved two-week winter break, I encourage you to take this time to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with your loved ones. Use this opportunity to explore new interests, pursue hobbies, and create lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term Three, refreshed and ready to continue the journey of knowledge and growth.
I look forward to seeing you all upon my return on 8 August.

Street Stall
I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our Kindergarten families, and event coordinator, Reané Strode, for your exceptional organisation and coordination of the P&F fundraising Street Stall last Saturday. Your dedication and hard work truly paid off!
The Street Stall and Wood Raffle were tremendous successes, raising an incredible $2014.40! This remarkable achievement wouldn't have been possible without your tireless efforts and commitment to making a difference within our school community.
I would also like to extend my warmest congratulations to Jack Strode for being the lucky winner of the wood. The lucky ticket was drawn by Brianna from the Crookwell IGA. May this prize bring warmth and joy to Jack's home.

Your contributions will undoubtedly go a long way in enhancing all our student's educational experiences and opportunities. The funds raised will help support various initiatives and projects that benefit our children directly.

Term Three Public Speaking Competition
The upcoming School Public Speaking Competition will take place on Tuesday, 8th August. This event promises to be a wonderful showcase of our students speaking skills and confidence!
In Week Two or Three of next term, each student will have the opportunity to present a speech to their class. This allows our students to gain valuable experience in public speaking within a comfortable and familiar setting. It also allows them to engage with their peers, share their ideas, and practice their communication skills.
The speech topics are as follows:
Year 3 - My backyard - 2 minutes
Year 4 - Sport brings us together - 2 minutes
Year 5 - Learning from the past - 3 minutes
Year 6 - Difficult journeys - 3 minutes
Following the class presentations, five representatives from each year group will be chosen to present their speeches to the entire school on Tuesday, 8th August. These finalists will compete to be one of the two chosen speakers for their respective year groups.
The selected speakers from our school will then move on to represent St Mary's at the Northern Region Public Speaking Competition on Friday, 18th August. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and compete with other schools in the region.
We encourage all students to participate enthusiastically in their class presentations and make the most of this valuable learning experience. Public speaking enhances communication skills and boosts confidence, critical thinking, and self-expression.
Parents and families are welcome to attend the school competition and show their support for our budding speakers.
We will provide further details about the schedule and logistics of the the Public Speaking Competition closer to the date. Please keep an eye out for additional information next term.
Long Service Leave - Term Three
I am excited to share the news that I will embark on Long Service Leave for the first three and a half weeks of Term 3. I will attend the Australian Primary Principals Association Conference in Hobart during this time. Before the conference, my husband and I plan to take a short trip around Tasmania.
While I will undoubtedly miss being a part of the vibrant St Mary's community during this period, I have full confidence in our dedicated staff to ensure the smooth running of the school. I am pleased to announce that Mrs Sally-Anne Croker, our esteemed Assistant Principal, will be acting as the Principal in my absence. Mrs Croker brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our school's values and vision. I have no doubt that St Mary's will continue to thrive under her capable leadership and provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.
During my leave, Mrs Croker will be supported by our exceptional team of teachers and support staff, who will be available to address any queries or concerns. Rest assured; they will do their utmost to maintain the high standards and caring environment that define our school.
While away, I will miss the daily interactions with the students, parents, and staff members who make St Mary's a warm and welcoming community. However, I look forward to returning refreshed and invigorated, armed with new insights and ideas from the conference, which will further enrich our school's educational experiences.

TERM 2 VALUE – Striving for Excellence
Winter is certainly here! It’s part of the cycle of life. The dying of the old in preparation for the new (in Spring). A time for rest and renewal. A time of contemplation.
Our school value for this term has been STRIVING for EXCELLENCE (‘striving to be Jesus’ mind – persevering and striving for excellence’). Our students’ school reports and work sample folders reflect their striving to do their best no matter what stage they are at in their learning journey.
Scripture tells us that we should strive for excellence in everything we do in our lives.
“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgement; That you may approve things that are excellent;” Philippians 1:9-11
For many today, living the Christian life is summed up in the words: “God is still working on me.” Jesus wants us to keep striving for excellence in reflecting His own goodness… holiness, love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, perseverance, courage etc.
The winter school break is a good time to reflect on how we are striving to live an excellent life that reflects these values and is pleasing to God. Of course, we must first open our hearts to Jesus’ love for us.
Lord,
From the rising of the winter sun to its setting, on these short winter days…
Make me short on mindless activity, long on reflecting on your love for me.
Make me short on being driven, long on paying attention.
Make me short on rushing and tiring, long on walking and wondering.
Make me short on focusing only on myself, long on looking beyond.
Make me short on mean thoughts, long on offers of words of comfort.
Make me short of obsessive lists, long on spontaneous acts of kindness,
Make me short on tradition as a habit, long on rediscovery and re-owning.
Make me short on false jollity, long on stilling and rooted joy.
Make me short on guilt, long on being merciful to myself.
Make me short on being overwhelmed, long on peacefulness.
AMEN
Please check your child's uniform items
As we approach the end of the term, now is a good time to ensure that all the items coming home with your children belong to them. Sometimes items accidentally get picked up and brought home.
We have a large number of school jumpers and sports jackets, all with no name and some quite new, sitting in our lost property. Please name all clothing items to ensure we can return items to the rightful owner as soon as possible.
** Remember you can use your Back to School vouchers in our clothing shop; however they must be redeemed by 30 June! **

Celebrating the Incredible 3D Solar System Projects by Year 5!
We are delighted to share with you the awe-inspiring achievements of our remarkable Year 5 class. Over the past few weeks, our budding young scientists embarked on a thrilling journey to explore the vastness of our solar system. Their dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm were truly boundless as they embarked on a project that would transport us all to the outer reaches of our universe.
Year 5 class dove headfirst into the captivating world of astronomy. They engaged in a comprehensive study of the planets, asteroids, and other celestial objects that form the fabric of our solar system. Armed with newfound knowledge, they were challenged to bring their understanding to life through the creation of intricate and visually stunning 3D solar system models.
The results were simply astonishing!
It was a sight to behold as our school's hallways transformed into a microcosm of the cosmos, showcasing an array of planetary wonders that left us all in awe.
The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—all were expertly crafted and arranged to mirror the intricate dance of the planets in their orbits. The attention to detail was nothing short of remarkable.
The projects extended beyond the planets themselves, as students showcased their ingenuity by incorporating various interactive elements. Some models featured rotating planets, while others illuminated the night sky with LED lights. It was a true testament to the Year 5 class's ability to blend scientific knowledge with artistic expression.
Their 3D solar system models will serve as a lasting reminder of their remarkable journey through the wonders of the cosmos
Year Two- Walking History Excursion
On Wednesday the 21st of June, Year Two went on a walking history excursion around Crookwell. After lunch, we set off to the Crookwell railway station. Did you know the Crookwell railway station was opened in 1902 and took passengers and potatoes to Goulburn?
Year Two then walked to the park to see the War Memorial that was built in 1966. We learned that Oscar's Grandfather put the gates there and that Oscar and Henry Butler’s relatives were listed on the plaque.
We then walked down the main street, where we played a game of eye spy, looking for the years on buildings. The Commercial Hotel (Horse and Hound) built in 1871 is the oldest building in Crookwell. The Mill House Hotel (Spud Murphy’s) is the second oldest building, built in 1873. We then looked at the Court House (1891) and police station (1878) before walking back to school.
My favourite place was the railway station and I thought it was a great day!
