Three-Way Conversations and Interim Reports
You are invited to attend a ten-minute, three-way (parent/student/teacher) conversation on Monday 13th or Tuesday 14th, March. This conversation will allow you to discuss how your child has settled into the new school year, their social development and engagement with learning.
The teacher will also provide you with your child's Interim Report at this meeting. The Interim Report indicates your child's enjoyment and interest in learning new things, ability to ask and answer questions, perseverance with tasks, work habits, ability to avoid distractions, follow school rules and collaborate with others.
Students in Years One - Six are to attend the meeting with their parents. Kindergarten students are not required to be part of the interview process.
To book a time slot, log into the Compass Parent Portal, or call Belinda.
Crookwell Country Weekend
On Saturday, 18 March, we have been invited to participate in the Crookwell Country Weekend Street Parade.
Our parade theme will be 'Country Kids'. We ask that students come to the muster point at 9.30am wearing country-themed clothing, such as checked shirts, jeans, boots and cowboy hats. The students will parade to popular country and Australian music. The parade commences at 10am.
Please notify us of your participation by completing the following form by next Monday, 13 March. Our participation in this will be reliant on numbers.

Clean Up Australia Day
I would like to thank all the students who participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Friday, 3rd March.
As we all know, Clean Up Australia Day is an important event that encourages people to take responsibility for their local environment and make a difference in their communities. By participating in this event, you have not only helped to clean up our surroundings, but you have also raised awareness about the importance of environmental protection and sustainability.
Let's continue to work together to make a positive impact in our local community and beyond.

LOVING and LEARNING our way through LENT
People often don’t look forward to Lent. Many Catholics would have childhood memories of giving up lollies or sitting through weekly Stations of the Cross. Words like “sacrifice,” “discipline,” and “self-denial” are often used in ways that suggest that Lent is something to be endured rather than a time of grace, peace and spiritual growth. But the Scripture readings of Lent continually refer to it as a joyful season.
Christians think of Lent as a yearly second chance…six weeks to take a long, loving look at their lives to see if their values and priorities are in line with what God wants for them (in line with Jesus’ teachings on love, compassion, justice, respect, forgiveness). Everyone wanders from God’s path, and Lent becomes that second chance, or do-over, to “return to the welcoming arms of our loving God.”
Lent is a meaningful time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for Catholics, their loved ones, and their communities. Your children, as part of our Catholic School Community, are focusing on Lent as a journey to become more like Jesus, and closer to God through prayer, self-reflection and actively embracing our school values of compassion, justice, respect, service and excellence.
St Patrick’s Day –Friday March 17 – GREEN clothes and food Day
Next Friday 17 March is St Patrick’s feast day. He is the patron saint of Ireland and one of the world's most popular saints. He taught people about God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit (the Trinity - three persons of God) using a shamrock - 3 leaf clover). He is an important saint in Crookwell as many ancestors are from Irish decent.
Next Friday, students may wear GREEN clothing to school (they could even wear their green sports shorts and a green top). Please send in a gold coin donation to support Project Compassion.
CAKE STALL – Year 6 will be providing some edible GREEN goodies at break time. All items will be 50 cents to support Project Compassion.
SERVING THE POOR through PROJECT COMPASSION
(Catholic Agency for International aid and developement)
Please support Project Compassion (Caritas Australia) this Lent. A Just Future for all starts with your support! Our students are researching the needs of the less fortunate through the CARITAS website and PROJECT COMPASSION activities. They are showing a keen awareness of the need for compassion and justice in our world and our responsibility to do what we can to bring about justice for all. Our classroom Project Compassion boxes are filling up quickly.
We must give in order to receive, so this Lent, let’s be generous with our time, our love, our forgiveness, our belongings.

Webinar: Anxiety and Resilience
WEDNESDAY 29 MARCH 7.00 PM
The Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT invites: parents, carers and staff to attend a FREE webinar to assist you to support children in your care.
Anxiety has become one of the leading causes of ill-health in our children. And it’s also affecting more parents than ever before. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated what was already an accelerating problem.
Can we stop anxiety? Where is it coming from? Are our kids bubble-wrapped snowflakes that just need to “toughen up” and get over it? Or is there an approach to our children’s anxiety that can build them, encourage them, and give them hope?
This webinar will provide the answers every parent needs to help their children – and even to help themselves.
Over the course of an hour, Dr Justin Coulson will help you to:
- Recognise anxiety in your child and know how best to respond when anxiety flares up
- Become a supportive hope-giver to your child to empower him/her to be courageous in the face of anxious thoughts
- Uncover the research-based #1 strength your child can develop to combat anxiety and develop remarkable resilience.
- Identify how your own anxieties could be affecting your child, and know how to manage them
- Learn proven strategies to help both you and your child navigate and manage anxiety when things get stressful
Once you’ve participated in this webinar, you’ll have strategies that you can put into practice on the spot to help curb anxiety, build confidence, and restore resilience in your child. And if you struggle with anxiety yourself, you’ll be changed.

Enjoying Time Together, Building Relationships with our Children
This week at St Mary’s, we celebrated Family Week. A time to slow down and spend some quality time together. Spending time and doing things together with your child helps to build your relationship, and can be done through everyday activities.
Spending special time with your child is good for their development and wellbeing, it boosts their confidence and gives the opportunity to:
- give your child your full attention
- send the message that your child is the most important thing to you
- see the world from your child’s point of view
- find out more about your child’s likes, dislikes, worries and frustrations
- give your child some guidance, talk to them and listen to them
- be a role model for your child.
When you and your child spend enjoyable time together, it can help your child feel happier and more relaxed. It can also help your child build resilience for the teenage years. That’s why it’s so important to lay the groundwork early on.
Sometimes you can make special time and have fun as part of your everyday family life. Here are ideas:
- Make a special after-school snack together
- Go shopping for groceries together and let your child help to make decisions, pay for things and have conversations with shop assistants.
- Eat meals together as a family and chat about your day.
- Make car trips fun by playing ‘I spy’, ‘spotto’ or ‘Who can see the next car with a number plate that makes a word?’ You could sing along to music together too.
- Read books or tell stories with your child at bedtime.
- Play board games like ‘snakes and ladders’, dominoes and simple card games. This helps your child learn to take turns and play fair.
- Spend time making things together, like drawing a picture or making a collage from photos cut out of a magazine.
- Make time to go to the park together – walk or ride a bike there, if you can.
- Give your child the chance to practise skills and get better at things like climbing and catching a ball.

Luke McCue Memorial Cup
The annual Luke McCue Memorial Cup day began last year with the idea being to unite the Goulburn and Crookwell rugby communities and remember the tragic loss of young people from these communities. The day also aims to raise funds that can be accessed by players who are injured during the season.
All are welcome on the 18th March at Poidevin Oval in Goulburn, either as players or spectators. The program includes a junior game between Goulburn Fizzy Reds and Crookwell Pups, followed by a trial match between Goulburn Dirty Reds and Crookwell Dogs, then social rugby 7s rounds which are open to all codes of sport. Presentations to the winners will lead into live music, dinner stalls, raffles and auctions.
Click on the Facebook link for more details about the day and to register as a player.
