Book Week
Congratulations to Mrs. Dorothea Hewitt on a hugely successful 2022 Book Week.
Yesterday the students were treated to a wonderful "Books to Life" Performance by Tony. Tony enacted the short-listed book 'The Imagineer' by Christopher Cheng with his puppet Penny. He sang and presented a creative and engaging rendition that had his audience completely enthralled.
The cost of the performance was covered by the 'Resource Levy'.
Anne Lovett, representing the Crookwell View Club visited St Mary's yesterday morning to present a 'Switched on Reader Award'. This annual award is presented to a student who has developed a love of reading. Congratulations to Kaylee Skinner for being our staff nominated 2022 recipient.
Yesterday, in the theme of 'Dreaming with eyes open', the students come to school dressed in comfortable clothes such as sleepwear, onesies and oodies. Thank you for your support with this. The students and staff looked warm and snuggly.
Please see Mrs Hewitt's Library news for more pictures.

Religious Education with Mrs. Skelly
We continue to strive for Compassion
Throughout the Bible, we find that compassion lies at the very core of the character of God. God is consistently described as loving, merciful, and compassionate.
In the gospels, 'mercy' is one of the important matters of the law that is actually neglected by the religious teachers and the Pharisees. But Jesus’ message is clear… ALWAYS have mercy for EVERYONE! Jesus constantly expressed mercy and compassion for the outcast, the poor, the sick, and the oppressed. His compassion was unconditional, it was complete, and it reflected the very nature of God.
Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, we are told repeatedly that God requires us to love mercy and to show mercy and compassion to one another.
We are called to live out the compassion that Jesus showed throughout His ministry on Earth, and that He has also shown to us. We are to reach out and embrace the sick, hurt, lonely, suffering, poor and downtrodden, and to do it without judgement and without seeking any kind of reward. The call to live with the mercy and compassion of God is so strong that it is equated with knowing God. Many Christians talk about having a personal relationship with God and describe this relationship as giving meaning, purpose and joy to their lives, even in tough times. The good news is that this relationship with God is accessible here and now to everyone… it’s not simply about ‘going to heaven when we die.’ Even better, we are not alone. The Spirit, freely given by God, empowers and strengthens us.
The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah spoke about what it meant to live justly and compassionately and in doing so, to know God…
“[Josiah] did what was right and just, so all went well with him.”
“He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well.”
“Is that not what it means to know me?”
Imagine a world where leaders answered God’s call to be merciful. We might not be able to directly influence leaders to be merciful and compassionate, but we can influence what happens in our own lives and in the lives of those we come across. Who knows? It could have a ripple effect. At St Mary’s we strive for our value of COMPASSION; and we are continually blessed by witnessing the positive effect that compassionate and merciful students have on others in the classroom and playground.

Canberra/Goulburn Cricket Trials
Earlier this year trials for Cricket were postponed due to weather conditions. Last week they were held again in Queanbeyan. Saxon Greenwood and Toby Charnock attended and were successful in gaining a spot in the Canberra Goulburn team and will now attend the Mackillop trial in Wagga on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd September. Henry Galland was also successful based on his Cricket stats and a prior commitment with State Hockey.
Best of luck to our three boys.
School Sport with Mrs. Rachael Croker
The students were excited to begin their touch football program, funded through a Sporting Schools Grant.
The sessions were led by the very talented Mrs. Megan Picker who very explicitly taught the key skills of the game. Only once these skills are mastered, can they be put into best practice on the field.
Lily working with Mrs. Picker to develop essential catch and pass skills.
Book Week
This week we celebrated Book Week.
Thank you for supporting the Book Fair. We receive a commission from the sales which help provide resources for the library.
The children were entertained yesterday morning with a live performance featuring the book The Imagineer. This was thoroughly enjoyed by all students.
The following are some of their thoughts:
I thought it was going to be a two or three-person show, turns out it was a one-man show. Tony, who performed the show, is talented and a funny person. He is very good at puppetry. The set was amazing. They had bright lights and cool props. If I had to rate it out of five stars, it would be five stars. Charlie Lang
Tony Bones was an amazing actor. There was humour, interesting things about old objects and good voice acting! It was a one-man show and Tony made it almost seem easy. He also made-up heaps of songs for the show, which really fitted the show. I hope Tony and his crew will be able to join us again with another great book, humour, and great acting! I rated this show a 5 out of 5 stars and I’m sure you all did too. Chloe Bensley
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!
As a filmmaker in the making, I was heavily inspired. The puppeteering was great, and the dynamics between Penny and her Grandfather were heartfelt, and strong throughout. And.. the jokes always landed. Overall, a big FAT SOLID 10/10! Angus Foley
Throughout the week the children also participated in virtual excursions offered by the State Library, in which some of Australia’s greatest children’s authors and illustrators took them through activities that stimulated their imaginations.
Thank you also for supporting our Pyjama day. The children looked fantastic.
