Yesterday Seth, Bridie and I travelled to Canberra to take part in a special Mass celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia.

The Mass of Thanksgiving, held at St Christopher's Cathedral, involved a host of School Leaders and Principals from the fifty-six school across our Archdiocese. 

The celebrant, Archbishop Christopher Prowse, encouraged us in his homily to look back on our past whilst moving forward, much like a rowing team. The Archbishop thanked the Religious Sisters and Brothers who were mainly responsible for starting Catholic Schools in Australia. He also asked us to walk forward in Catholic Education using our heads, for academic excellence, our hearts to spread the love of God with others and our hands and feet to support those in the world that need help, just like Jesus did.

Did you know that in our region, the first Catholic School was founded at Yass by the Sisters of Mercy in 1847? The Sisters of Mercy went on to open schools in Goulburn in 1854, Boorowa in 1858, Crookwell in 1903 and Binda in 1924.  The Sisters of St Joseph started schools in Goulburn in 1859 and Taralga in 1880. St Patricks College Goulburn opened in 1874. 

You are invited to attend a ten-minute three-way (parent/student/teacher) conversation on Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 March. This conversation will provide you with an opportunity to discuss how your child has settled into the new school year, their social development and engagement with learning.

At this meeting, the teacher will also provide you with your child's Interim Report, and Personal Plan, for children accessing additional support programs. The Interim Report gives you an indication of your child's enjoyment and interest in learning new things, ability to ask and answer questions, perseverance with tasks, work habits, ability to avoid distractions, follow school rules and collaborate with others.
